If you can't afford your bill
If you are struggling to pay your bill you can check if you qualify for a discount, exemption or Council Tax reduction. You will need to pay your Council Tax as billed while you wait for the outcome of an application.
You can also set up a Direct Debit. This will give you the option to pay over 12 monthly instalments, to reduce the amount that you pay each month. If you pay by Direct Debit you will be able to choose one of six payment dates: 1st, 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th.

- Watford Citizens Advice Bureau - They also support applications for Universal Credit.
If you are still unable to pay then a summons will be issued. Only after a summons is issued can other payment arrangements be considered.
Make a payment plan online
If you have missed more than one payment on your Council Tax bill and have received a reminder notice or a summons, you may still be able to clear your arrears without any further enforcement action.
You can request an affordable payment plan online. Once assessed, we will contact you with details of the agreement put into place.
