Shared space safefy with buses and pedestrians
Your safety matters. We've heard your concerns about safety in areas where buses and pedestrians/cyclists share space. Here's what we're doing:
- Specific signage: Look out for new caution signs at the High Street/Market Street junction to alert pedestrians and cyclists about bus and authorised vehicle movements. We're also exploring options with the Hertfordshire County Council to enhance safety with additional street features like guard rails.
- Advice to cyclists and pedestrians: For the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, especially during bus movements, we advise caution when entering the shared space along the High Street between Clarendon Road and Market Street (which includes a contraflow cycle lane).
- Monitoring illegal parking: Our Parking Enforcement team is actively patrolling the High Street area to address illegal parking as best as possible.
We're also keeping an eye on Clarendon Road concerns, monitoring coach operators and obstructive vehicles. Your cooperation is vital. Please follow safety guidelines and share this message for a safer community.
