Caravan site licence applications

Apply for a caravan or campsite licence

If you wish to apply for a caravan site licence, you can do it online:

A decision on your application will be made within two months of receiving your application.

You do not need a license for

  • incidental use within the curtilage of a dwelling house
  • a single caravan used by a person for not more than two consecutive nights for a maximum 28 days in a 12 month period
  • holdings of five acres or more where they are used by up to three caravans at a time for a maximum of 28 days in any 12 month period
  • building and engineering sites
  • travelling showmen

The occupier of any land cannot use their land as a caravan site unless they hold a valid site licence under the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960.

It is in the public interest that the authority must process your application before a site license can be granted.

The land must also have planning permission for use as a caravan site.

Licences will not be issued to applicants who have had a site licence revoked within the last three year.
