Watford's network of Welcoming Spaces is growing.
Over 20 organisations and businesses across Watford have registered to become a Welcoming Space, an initiative launched by Watford Borough Council last year to support local people through the ongoing cost of living emergency.
Launched amidst growing worries about the impact of rising energy bills, particularly amongst the most vulnerable in the community, Watford’s Welcoming Spaces offer a safe and friendly location for those worried about fuel usage.
After a successful launch, Watford is now home to 21 Welcoming Spaces including Watford Cycle Club, the Luther Blissett Hub and North Watford Library.
The council’s sports and leisure provider, Everyone Active, recently launched a new hub at Watford Woodside Leisure Centre. The space offers soft play session for parents and toddlers.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said: “During these difficult times, it’s been great to see local businesses and community groups step up to provide safe and warm hubs for all. We now have a significant number of hubs dotted across the town so you’re never too far away from a space.
“We’re looking forward to extending our network and encourage organisations of all types to take advantage of the funding available to set up their own spaces”.
All Welcoming Spaces can receive funding through the Watford Community Fund and will connect with the wider network of Warm Spaces across Hertfordshire. Email communications@watford.gov.uk for details and to apply for funding.
