Fairtrade Fortnight is coming to Watford and residents are invited to join the celebration of fair trade and sustainable living.
From 27 February – 11 March, a series of events will be held to raise awareness and support for fair trade products and practises.
The two-week event will feature a variety of activities including a fair trade lunch and dinner, provided by the students at West Herts Community College and a Fairtrade quiz night. The events are open to the general public and will allow attendees to sample a range of delicious fair trade food and drink.
Fairtrade Fortnight provides a platform for communities to come together and learn about the benefits of fair trade and how it can positively impact the lives of the producers and their communities in developing countries. By choosing fair trade products, consumers can play a significant role in promoting sustainable and ethical sourcing practices.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “Watford is a proud Fairtrade town and we invite residents to get involved in the events we have planned. It is a great opportunity for people to learn about the positive impact their purchasing decisions can have and enjoy some fantastic Fairtrade products.”
Joint chair of Watford Fair-Trade Group Councillor Rabi Martins, said: “Watford became a Fairtrade Town in 2007 and we are proud to recognise local stores that offer Fairtrade products, including food and clothing, in support of fair wages for global producers. If residents in Watford included at least one Fairtrade product in their weekly shopping, they can help improve the quality of life for these workers and their families. There are thousands of Fairtrade certified products, including tea, coffee, chocolate, bananas, flowers and even gold available from retail outlets in the UK.”
