Watford Borough Council and West Herts College restaurant have collaborated to relaunch the ‘Forget me not’ dining experience.
The restaurant offers those living with dementia and their carers a relaxed dining experience, allowing them to enjoy eating out without stigma or exclusion. By empathising with the difficulties associated with dementia, the students are able to help provide dementia friendly customer service and help those living with dementia to live well. This is part of the council’s aim to ensure that those living with dementia have equal opportunities to socialise, partake in everyday activities and live independently.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “We are so glad to see the ‘Forget me not’ restaurant reopen. I know how isolating dementia can be. This dining experience provides not only high-quality food, but also an opportunity for those living with dementia and their carers to connect, share their experiences and offer support.
Our commitment to make Watford a dementia friendly town remains a priority, especially as the cost of living emergency continues. I would like to thank West Herts College, especially their fantastic Food Academy and hospitality students in the restaurant, for partnering with us to deliver this amazing intergenerational experience.”
