Discover all the events happening across Watford to commemorate the historic Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and the Queen Consort.
Watford will be joining in in the national celebrations to mark the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Consort with a range of events for from 5 – 8 May, to help everyone get into the coronation spirit.
On Friday 5 May, to start the weekend off, Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor will be raising the coronation flag outside of the Town Hall at 9:30am. Residents and visitors to Watford are encouraged to join us and share in this historic moment. From 6pm - 10pm, Watford Market will host a ‘Market Lates – King’s Coronation Special’. There will be a fantastic line-up of local vendors that will offer a diverse range of food, drinks and crafts, all fit for a King. Whether you’re craving some traditional dishes or looking for a modern twist on old favourites, there will be something for everyone. There will also be live entertainment, including 1950's inspired band 'The Jivettes', to get the special weekend off to a fun-filled start. On Sunday 7 May, the council will be hosting ‘The Big Coronation Lunch’ at the iconic bandstand in Cassiobury Park, kindly sponsored by the Berkeley Group. From 12pm – 4pm, visitors are invited to attend the coronation-themed festivities and celebrate this moment in history in a place with royal connections. In 1946, Cassiobury Park hosted the Herts Show and had a very famous guest attend, Princess Elizabeth. The Queen went on to visit the Watford area of number of times throughout her reign, including visiting our very own Watford Museum.
Watford BID will be illuminating the town red, white and blue, with union flag banners bunting adorning the High Street throughout the weekend. They will also be arranging for some fantastic artwork in town centre shop windows, as part of the school coronation art exhibition. Visitors can also participate in a coronation-themed town trail, where they can discover the secret letter hidden in venues along the High Street that spell out someone closely linked to this historic weekend.
Atria Watford will be joining in the celebrations, inviting visitors to watch the Coronation and festivities afterwards on the Big Screen on Saturday 6 May. They will be continuing the fun into Sunday, where visitors will be able to hope in their free Mini Cooper photo booth, strike a pose with their loved ones and take home a memory that will last forever.
The Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty Queen Consort is an important event in the history of the country, and is an occasion to celebrate. Watford is excited to be a part of this national celebration and invites everyone to join in the festivities from 5 – 8 May.
