The current policy

Under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982, the council has the power to license such establishments and prescribe standard conditions to ensure compliance and meet the council's expectations. Although not legally obligated to have a policy, the council recognises the importance of having one in place.

The current policy, which has been effective since 2020, is set to expire in July 2023. It includes limitations on the number of permitted premises, particularly in the town centre, as well as standard conditions for different types of establishments.

To continue providing a clear framework for businesses and residents alike, the council intends to renew this policy.

Consulation on current policy

This consultation aims to gather opinions on renewing the policy for an additional three years, and will run until Sunday 18 June 2023. To participate, please submit your comments or suggestions to the council by this date.

The council's existing policy is available for download on the official website at www.watford.gov.uk/sexestablishment. Alternatively, you may request a copy from the licensing team.
