Watford Town Cricket Club has been awarded a £20,000 Neighbourhood Grant from Watford Borough Council to replace the existing cricket nets with fully enclosed, lockable two-lane practice nets.
The new nets, at the club’s Woodside ground, will provide a safer and more efficient training and coaching environment for local and borough-wide participants of all ages. With the lanes divided by netting all the way to the beginning of the run-ups, they will also ensure greater protection, both for those on the cricket pitch and for the public, from hard-hit cricket balls.
Watford Town Cricket Club is grateful to receive this grant and is eager to install the new nets to provide quality practice facilities to both adults and youngsters. The new equipment will benefit the many school-age children who attend the coaching sessions at Woodside every Sunday morning, throughout the summer.
Andrew Canning, Watford Town Cricket Club Secretary, said: “We are delighted to have received this grant from the council. The new nets, being fully enclosed, will not only provide a safer environment for our members, but will also give us the opportunity to expand our coaching and training programs to the wider community. We look forward to welcoming new players to our club and providing them with the best possible facilities.”

I am delighted that Watford Town Cricket Club has been awarded this grant to improve their cricket nets, which will benefit both the club's members and the wider community.”
