To support Pride Month, the council is helping to raise further awareness of the month of celebration and commemoration, by raising the flag and announcing another year of hosting Herts Pride...
In a collective effort to promote inclusivity and celebrate diversity, the town are supporting a series of initiatives throughout the year that highlight the rich LGBTIQA+ culture in Watford.
Joining forces with Clive Duffey and Tyson Martin, the founders of Herts Pride and Ask for Clive, as well as members from Proud Watford, the Elected Mayor Peter Taylor and Chairman Councillor Simon Feldman raised the Pride flag on 6 June during a special ceremony, honouring the LGBTQ+ community and underscoring Watford's commitment to equality and diversity.
The council is also delighted to announce that Cassiobury Park will be hosting Herts Pride on 19 August. This joyful event brings together people from all walks of life, fostering unity, pride, and celebration of the LGBTQ+ community in Watford and beyond. With a diverse range of activities, performances, and entertainment planned, Herts Pride promises to be a truly memorable day of inclusivity and acceptance.
Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “I am proud to stand alongside the LGBTIQA+ community and celebrate the great progress that has been made in recent decades to advance LGBTIQA+ rights in the UK. However, I know there is a long way to go. I am committed to ensuring that everyone feels safe, supported, and valued in our town."
Tyson Martin, Chair of Hertfordshire Pride Society, said: "Pride Month is an opportunity for us to celebrate the LGBTIQA+ community and reaffirm our commitment to equality and inclusivity. The town is sending a clear message: Watford is a place where everyone can be proud of who they are. "
The Pride Flag was also officially raised on 1 June by the Chairman, Councillor Simon Feldman, and Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Holder for Community, Aga Dychton.
