The Watford Community Lottery is delighted to announce that as ticket sales open for the scheme, a remarkable milestone has been reached with over 40 local good causes now signed up to benefit from this transformative initiative which will support their fundraising efforts.
Since the highly successful launch event organised by Watford Borough Council last month - where local organisations and charities were asked to sign-up to benefit from the scheme - the lottery has gained 20 additional good causes, bringing the total to an impressive 40. This includes Watford Women’s Centre, One YMCA, Watford Gymnastics Club and many more. It will support their fundraising efforts by giving them 60% of ticket sales.
The Watford Community Lottery is also thrilled to inform residents that with ticket sales now open, the first draw of the lottery will be on 24 June. Tickets will cost just £1, and players have a one in 50 chance of winning a prize, ranging from the £25,000 jackpot to £1,000, £250, £25 or three free lottery tickets. Those who participate in the first draw will also be in with a chance of winning a £250 Watford Gift Card Voucher.
As a testament to their commitment to empowering communities, Gatherwell, the operator of the Watford Community Lottery, has successfully facilitated numerous Community Lotteries in the UK.
They have been a resounding success by providing a sustainable funding source for local voluntary and community groups, alleviating financial pressures on community funds, and raising substantial amounts of money, totalling over £1.8 million to support 816 numerous good causes across their landmark schemes in Buckinghamshire, Tandridge, Bournemouth, and West Berkshire.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: "I am thrilled to see the Watford Community Lottery attracting 40 good causes. I know that lots of us will be taking part in the lottery so that we can support these fantastic local charities, as well as having the chance to win £25,000.
“We have seen during the pandemic and with the Cost of Living Crisis how important our local charities are. Every day they make a big difference in Watford. I am very keen to help local charities raise more money to support their important work. My last manifesto included a commitment to see if we could have a Watford Community Lottery. I am really pleased that we have made this happen.”
Deputy Mayor of Watford and Portfolio Holder for Community, Councillor Aga Dychton said: “The Watford Community Lottery offers a unique opportunity for residents to contribute to causes that align with their interests and passions. By pooling resources, the community can support social initiatives, environmental projects, sports clubs, cultural programs, and more, ultimately enhancing the quality of life in Watford.”
