Watford Borough Council is delighted to unveil this year’s exciting lineup of cultural experiences and events taking place across the town this summer and beyond...
With something for everyone, many of these events are made funded by Watford Borough Council and most are FREE, ensuring accessibility and enjoyment for all residents and visitors.
On 15 July, Cassiobury Park will come alive with the powerful performances of "Hercules." This gripping play will transport audiences to the world of Greek mythology, captivating both young and old with its epic storytelling and mesmerizing visuals. Then, on 26 July, the park will host a delightful adaptation of "The Ugly Duckling," a heartwarming tale that celebrates acceptance and self-discovery.
Film fanatics can enjoy the magic of the silver screen with multiple screenings taking place in Watford. From 24 July to 30 July, the Big Screen in the town centre will showcase a diverse range of films, offering an immersive cinematic experience for all. Additionally, from 31 July to 6 August, the Big Screen at Woodside Playing Fields will continue to delight movie lovers.
Music lovers and jazz enthusiasts can mark their calendars for 30 July, when Watford will host one of the UK's largest FREE Jazz Festivals, the Big Jiveswing Festival, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary in the town. This extraordinary event promises to transport attendees to the swinging era of jazz, with performances by acclaimed artists that will have everyone tapping their feet and feeling the rhythm.
For those longing for a beach experience, The Parade in the Town Centre will be transformed into "Big Beach" from 12 August to 27 August. Visitors can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a seaside getaway, with the sand between your toes, beach activities, and a relaxing ambiance. This event provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy the summer vibes without traveling to the coast.
From 19 August to 28 August, Colourscape will captivate audiences with its unique and immersive art installation. For those attending, they can step into a labyrinth of 70 interlinked chambers, each adorned with intense and vibrant colors. People can also discover musicians and dancers interweaving their performances with your exploration, creating an unforgettable sensory experience.
On 19 August, the vibrant and inclusive spirit of Watford will be celebrated at Herts Pride, Hertfordshire's largest LGBTQ+ festival. This fantastic event promotes equality, love, and acceptance, while showcasing the talents and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community.
Sport lovers and individuals passionate about fitness will have a chance to participate in a range of activities and receive health and wellbeing advice at Big Sports on 9 September. Whether you're an experienced athlete or a novice looking to get active, it promises an engaging and enjoyable experience for all.
As summer transitions into autumn, the Watford Fringe festival will take centre stage from 22 September 22 to 8 October. This year's festival promises to be bigger and more exciting than ever, featuring a multitude of performances, art exhibitions, and cultural experiences that celebrate local talent and creativity.
Finally, on 4 November, residents can prepare for an awe-inspiring display of lights and colours at the much-anticipated Fireworks event. The night sky will be transformed into a breathtaking canvas, with a spectacular fireworks show that will leave spectators in awe.
