The council is delighted to announce a series of enhancements to Leavesden Green Recreation Ground...
These improvements – which were supported by Leavesden Green Residents Association – are aimed at providing an enhanced recreational experience for the community and reflect the council's ongoing commitment to creating inclusive and accessible green spaces.
A key enhancement is the installation of a wider central path, designed to accommodate a greater number of visitors. Additionally, a brand-new bound gravel path has been constructed, strategically connecting different areas of the park, particularly the play areas and community hub. These paths will ensure that individuals can move around effortlessly, and accessibility is improved for everyone.
Leavesden Green Recreation Ground is also undergoing significant ecological improvements, highlighting Watford Borough Council's commitment to enhancing the environment. One notable change is the establishment of a designated biodiversity area within the recreation ground.
Recognising the importance of preserving and enhancing biodiversity, the council will be reducing mowing on the edges of the area. This intentional reduction allows for increased biodiversity to thrive, fostering a healthier ecosystem within the park.
Later this year, the council will also plant new trees throughout the recreation ground in the autumn/winter. These trees will serve a dual purpose: enhancing the park's visual appeal and contributing to a more sustainable environment. By increasing the tree cover, the council aims to improve air quality, reduce pollution, and create habitats for various species.
Lastly, the council will also be installing updated signage throughout the park, making it easier for visitors to navigate and discover the various amenities available.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “We are pleased to unveil the completion of these enhancements at Leavesden Green Recreation Ground, demonstrating our dedication to creating inclusive and accessible green spaces for the community. I would also like to thank the Residents Association, who supported us on these improvements.”

Speaking about the environmental improvements, Cllr Tim Williams, Portfolio Holder for Parks, said: “The council is committed to making ecological improvements across the town. With a designated biodiversity area and new trees being planted, we are fostering a thriving ecosystem within the park, while improving air quality and providing habitats for various species.
"Together, we are creating a greener and more sustainable future. I would also like to thank the Residents Association for their support towards the project."
