In celebration of the conclusion of the Tour de France, the council and Watford Cycle Hub are delighted to offer free trishaw rides to elderly and disabled residents in Cassiobury Park on 23 July...
The rickshaw-style device which comfortably seats two people, will be available from 10am to 2pm at Cassiobury Park, where residents can hop on one of the charming trishaws and enjoy a leisurely ride through the park. It is part of the ‘Cycling Without Age’ initiative which aims to increase physical activity and emotional wellbeing with both the passengers and cyclists alike.
Skilled trishaw pilots from the Cycle Hub will be on hand to take people on a delightful journey, allowing passengers in the beauty of the park's surroundings and unwind after the Tour de France. So, whether you're a cycling enthusiast or simply looking for a fun-filled day out with family and friends, this event offers a unique opportunity to celebrate the end of the cycling event in style.
The trishaws provide a comfortable ride and connects those no longer able to ride for themselves with their community and the outdoors. They are an expansion of the very successful ‘Lets Ride’ free led and guided rides for all, which the council currently runs in Watford through partnerships with British Cycling and Watford Cycle Hub.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “These free trishaw rides are a great opportunity for older residents and those with mobility difficulties to explore Cassiobury Park, thanks to wonderful volunteers from the Watford Cycle Hub.
“The time spent with the volunteers on the Trishaw is a great opportunity for participants to enjoy what the park has to offer, connect with others and share stories.”
Kate Jenkins, founder of Watford Cycle Hub, said: “The act of two passengers sharing a trishaw, along with the volunteer pilots, creates new relationships and friendships, which has proven to be one of the most valuable aspects of this project. Elderly people are brought back into community life, stories are shared, and health and wellbeing improves for everyone involved.”
In addition to the free trishaw rides, there will be a guided family ride at 10am in Cassiobury Park on the same day. This ride is specifically designed to cater to families, welcoming participants of all ages.
