Veolia has identified the need for essential tree works in Cheslyn Gardens...
The project aims to address the removal of numerous trees that are either dead or at risk of failure in the wooded area. These measures are taken to ensure the safety of visitors and to maintain the overall health of the park's ecosystem.
The tree works are crucial in preserving the natural beauty and safety of Cheslyn Gardens, and the decision to remove these trees comes after a thorough assessment of logistics and risks by Veolia. The removal process will require temporary closure of the gardens for an estimated period of 5 days.
During this time, vehicles and machinery will need full access across the open lawn areas and into the woodland to fell the trees and remove the arisings from the site. Due to safety concerns, public access to the park will not be permitted during this period. Typically, at larger sites, only the affected area would be closed. However, this is not feasible at Cheslyn Gardens due to the compact nature of the site.
The tree work has been scheduled to commence during the week of 20 November to minimise disruption. Additionally, the work is being planned for a time when temperatures are likely to have dropped and the gardens are less busy.
Veolia will place notices on the garden gates and the council will post on social media to keep the public informed about the temporary closure and the progress of the tree works. It is important to note that, although some trees will be removed, stumps will be left in place to provide wildlife benefits, and wood chippings and logs will also be retained as part of the park's ecological preservation efforts.
