Footpath improvements between St Albans Road and Watford Junction Station have now been completed by Watford Borough Council...
Funded via Watford Borough Council and Berkeley Homes’ Section 106 (S106) contribution (Eight Gardens, The Range), phase one of the improvement project completed in March 2023, focused on resurfacing the footpath from the subway entrance through to where the Network Rail footpath starts.
This phase also included refurbishing the hoarding, repainting and applying an anti-graffiti coating, and removing the old timber upright posts that were embedded into the existing footpath. The area where blue badge bays are located was also tidied up, and existing street furniture was repainted.
Phase two of the improvement project was completed on 4 December and used the remaining s106 contribution from Berkeley to refurbish the steps leading down to the main Bridle Path, improve the lighting, resurface the Network Rail path, trim back overhanging vegetation and refresh the crossing by the entrance/tunnel to the station car park.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “Pedestrian safety is paramount. The new surface is smoother and a more user-friendly walking surface for people of all ages and abilities. It’s also better for commuters using Watford Junction. We also refreshed the area with a clean and some anti-graffiti coating to prevent vandalism and maintain the visual appeal of our town.”
Cllr Ian Stotesbury, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Sustainability, hailed these new upgrades: “This will make a huge difference for local people. We are committed to delivering even more improvements in the future. It is so important to make changes that make walking a pleasant and safe experience for everyone."
