To deliver a countywide Retrofit Skills Plan, your support is needed...
The government’s net zero carbon target brings many opportunities and challenges, but the UK has the potential to make a significant contribution through our building stock. The UK has the oldest and most inefficient housing stock in Europe with three in five homes rated below EPC C. In our county alone, half a million homes require retrofit measures to improve EPC standards.
Hertfordshire has secured over £40m from Government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, which will lead to £100m of predicted works to make homes greener and more energy efficient over the next two years. This investment, combined with other Government funding schemes (like PSDF, HUG2), will unlock new opportunities for local tradespeople and the SME supply chain.
To support this and accelerate quality retrofit delivery, a robust skills infrastructure must be put in place. Recognising this, Hertfordshire LEP has secured funding from The Department for Energy, Science and Net-Zero (DESNZ) to produce a Regional Retrofit Skills Plan for Hertfordshire by December 2023, and to implement this plan through retrofit skills projects from January 2024.
