A £25 million eco-conscious redevelopment of the gateway to Watford Business Park has been successfully completed, transforming 4.3 acres of what was previously an old surface-level car park and surrounding buildings into a modern hub for businesses.
The project known as ‘Inspire’ was led by Watford Borough Council and part-funded by a £5 million Local Growth Fund investment from Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). It now features 13 high quality industrial/warehouse units and a café, geared to attract enterprises from Hertfordshire’s high-value sectors including film and TV, life sciences and manufacturing to boost local economic growth and employment opportunities.
Sustainability has been a key focus, with each industrial unit equipped with solar panels, electric vehicle charging points and ample cycle storage facilities to reduce car reliance. The buildings are also designed to maximise natural light and ventilation to lower energy use. Thanks to these features, the project is set to achieve a BREEAM 'Very Good' sustainability rating.
A new sustainable urban drainage system and pond, native wildflower planting, and a large number of newly planted trees within an industrial setting add to the site’s green credentials, while helping support biodiversity and boost well-being.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “I am delighted to see this exciting project being delivered successfully. These fantastic new facilities will support more jobs in our area and economic growth for our town. It is really good to see the focus on the environment. The site now has better drainage, with lots of new trees and features to support cycling and walking.
“The goal was to create a modern space where sustainability and businesses successfully work together, which we have achieved. Watford Business Park is a model for others to follow. I'm so happy we have delivered this and can’t wait to see businesses opening here in the coming months.”

In order to maintain the county’s contribution to the national economy, the vitality of our towns and cities, and to provide local employment opportunities for residents, it is essential that we continue to offer high quality spaces where our businesses can thrive.
“Inspire at Watford Business Park will expand the area’s employment capacity and capitalise on the town’s excellent transport links, skilled workforce, and strong business base. We are delighted with the sustainable transformation that has taken place here, which complements our wider programme of investment in Watford, including the regeneration of Clarendon Road, Trade City, Riverwell and Watford Junction station.”
The project was designed by award winning architects, Studio Egret West, and it has been managed and delivered on behalf of the council by Stace LLP, and Faircloth, the construction company leading the charge.
