Elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Watford will be walking the Abbey Line Trail to raise money for Watford Women’s Centre.
The 10-mile walk will start at 10am on 25 February, beginning at Watford Junction station and ending at St Albans Abbey station, and the community is invited to join in and show support for this important cause. The event welcomes participants of all ages, families, and groups to come together for a leisurely stroll in support of a noble cause.
All proceeds directly benefiting the Watford Women's Centre. The Watford Women's Centre is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering and supporting women in Watford and the surrounding areas. They offer a range of services, including counselling, workshops, educational programs, and resources, to help women lead fulfilling and independent lives.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: "We are honoured to support the Watford Women's Centre through this walk along the Abbey Line trail. The Centre does incredible work in our community, and we hope this event will not only raise funds but also raise awareness about the services they provide."
Deputy Mayor and Portfolio Holder for Community, Cllr Aga Dychton, said: “We encourage residents to join us in this symbolic journey, and be part of a collective effort that contributes to making a positive impact on the lives of women in Watford.”
“In 2022, the Watford Council proudly attained its 'White Ribbon Accreditation,' a testament to our commitment to ending Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). Our ongoing three-year plan involves close collaboration with key partners, as well as voluntary and community organisations, like Watford Women’s Centre. Together, we are actively addressing behaviours and attitudes that excuse or enable male VAWG, forging a path towards a safer and more inclusive community for all."
