Watford Borough Council is inviting anyone with a passion for cycling to join its lively Cycle Forum on Thursday 17 October from 6pm to 8pm at the Town Hall Annexe...

The forum is an opportunity for local people to hear about some of the improvements already done to make Watford a more cycle friendly town and what is planned next. These works are part of the council’s ambitious ‘Transforming Travel in Watford’ strategy, developed in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council, which sets out practical steps to make it easier and greener to get around the town.

Providing better and safer cycle routes across the town is a key part of the strategy, and updates at the forum will focus on the progress of the Watford's travel strategy, advancements in the Green Loop Wayfinding project, developments in the Local Cycling Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP), and updates on sustainability and cycling-related activities and initiatives.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “Cycling is such an important part of making Watford a green and healthy town for everyone. This is shown by the success of the town’s Beryl Bike scheme since it launched in 2020, replacing more than 81,000 private vehicle trips and preventing over 44 tonnes of carbon emissions.

“The more people choose cycling or walking for even a single journey rather than their car, the more we all benefit from less congestion and cleaner air. The Forum is really important in shaping the plans for Watford and so I really hope people join us to find out what’s next”.

Councillor Ian Stotesbury, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Sustainability, said: “We want to invite any Watford resident interested in being a part of the cycle plans for our town to come down to the cycle forum or get in touch with their views. We look forward to seeing you there.”

The forum is on Thursday 17 October from 6-8 pm on the 3rd Floor of the Annexe Building, Town Hall, Watford WD17 3EX. If you are interested in being part of the evening, sign up at ticketsource.co.uk/watford-borough-council or email sustainabletransport@watford.gov.uk.
