Recycling collections move to fortnightly

Veolia - Waste Collection

The greener way to collect recycling…

Starting 21 October 2024, Watford will switch to fortnightly recycling collections for houses and flat blocks of 5 or less, following the example of 80% of councils across the country.

Your blue-lidded bin will be collected fortnightly while all other collections will remain unchanged. This shift represents a greener approach to recycling, offering better value for money and significantly reducing carbon emissions by decreasing the number of collection vehicles on our roads.Recycling collection image UPDATED

For those residents who diligently separate and recycle their waste, we applaud your efforts! Thanks to you Watford is in the top 20% in England for recycling. If you find your bin filling up quickly each week, we've compiled some helpful tips to maximise space and make the most of your recycling efforts:

  • Before tossing recyclables into your bin, crush and flatten items like plastic bottles and cans
  • Remove excess packaging from items and break down large cardboard boxes
  • Compact your plastics and cans to create additional room

But what if you still need more space? We've got solutions for that too!

  • If you currently have a smaller 140-litre blue-lidded bin, you can swap it for a standard 240-litre bin.
  • Households with four or more permanent residents can apply for a second 240-litre blue-lidded bin to accommodate their recycling needs.

Apply by clicking the button to request your new bin which will delivered to your doorstep free of charge. Please be advised bins will be delivered from Monday 18 November.
