Watford Borough Council is delighted to unveil this year’s exciting lineup of cultural experiences and events taking place across the town this summer and beyond...
With something for everyone, many of these events are made funded by Watford Borough Council and most are FREE, ensuring accessibility and enjoyment for all residents and visitors.
The Watford Fringe will take centre stage from 1 July to 4 August, and this year's festival promises to be bigger and more exciting than ever. It will feature a multitude of performances, art exhibitions, and cultural experiences that celebrate local talent and creativity. From May to October 2024, residents can also enjoy a variety of art exhibitions at the beautiful Cheslyn House and Gardens.
Music lovers and jazz enthusiasts can mark their calendars for 28 July, when Watford will host one of the UK's largest FREE Jazz Festivals, the Big Jiveswing Festival. This extraordinary event promises to transport attendees to the swinging era of jazz, with performances by acclaimed artists that will have everyone tapping their feet and feeling the rhythm.
Film fanatics can enjoy the magic of the silver screen with multiple screenings taking place in Watford. From 5 August to 11 August, the Big Screen in the town centre will showcase a diverse range of films, offering an immersive cinematic experience for all. Additionally, from 12 August to 18 August, the Big Screen at Knutsford Playing Fields will continue to delight movie lovers.
For those longing for a beach experience, The Parade in the Town Centre will be transformed into Big Beach from 16 August to 30 August. Visitors can immerse themselves in the atmosphere of a seaside getaway, with the sand between their toes, beach activities, and a relaxing ambiance. This event provides the perfect opportunity to enjoy the summer vibes without traveling to the coast.
From 17 August to 26 August, Colourscape will captivate audiences with its unique and immersive art installation. For those attending, they can step into a labyrinth of 70 interlinked chambers, each adorned with intense and vibrant colours. People can also discover musicians and dancers performing, creating an unforgettable sensory experience.
On 31 August, the vibrant and inclusive spirit of Watford will be celebrated at Herts Pride, Hertfordshire's largest LGBTQ+ festival. This fantastic event promotes equality, love, and acceptance, while showcasing the talents and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community.
This year, Cassiobury Park will also be hosting two exciting events that celebrate culture and community. On 29 June, the vibrant flavours and rhythms of the Caribbean will be at the "Taste of the Caribbean Food & Drink Festival." Then, on 4 and 5 October, the "Hertfordshire Oktoberfest" will provide a taste of Bavarian tradition.
Finally, on 2 November, residents can prepare for an awe-inspiring display of lights and colours at the much-anticipated Fireworks event. The night sky will be transformed into a breathtaking canvas, with a spectacular fireworks show that will leave spectators in awe.
