Simpler Recycling seeks to improve recycling rates, reduce contamination and achieve net zero targets.
What does this new legislation mean for your business?
1. Separating recycling from general waste
Your business will be responsible for separating:
a) food waste
b) all dry recycling (paper, card, plastic packaging, glass and metal
This means you will need a minimum of three containers.
2. When does this legislation come into force?
The timeline for compliance with the Simpler Recycling legislation is:
- Businesses and relevant non-domestic premises must comply by 31 March 2025.
- Micro-firms (businesses with fewer than 10 full-time equivalent employees) must comply by 31 March 2027.
By these dates, all specified premises must have arrangements in place to recycle the designated materials effectively.
