Apply today!
Run by Hertfordshire County Council, this programme is delivered in partnership with all 10 of the region’s district and borough councils. It enables residents of Watford and Hertfordshire to apply for up to five free trees, or four trees and one hedgerow pack (enough to plant 6m of hedgerow), specially selected for the region's geography and climate to ensure their long-term sustainability.
The aim of the initiative is to involve the community in improving air quality, establishing new trees, and contributing to the overall sustainability goals of the town and county, which includes Watford Borough Council's carbon-neutral target for the town by 2030.
It also supports Hertfordshire County Council's vision of planting 1.8 million new trees across Hertfordshire by 2030, enhancing nature by 20% before 2050 and improving air quality for all residents by 2030.
The addition of the 5,000 trees will help further enhance Watford's landscape, which includes Whippendell Wood, Cassiobury Park, Oxhey Park, and many other award-winning open spaces. They will also build on the 23,000 trees previously given to residents in giveaways and the 1,500 trees planted in parks and streets since 2022.
Paul Stacey, Associate Director of Environment and Communities at Watford Borough Council, said: “We would like to thank residents for their engagement and support with this scheme in recent years, and once again, we are inviting everyone in Watford to participate to help us become a net-zero town by 2030. We are also delighted to collaborate with Hertfordshire County Council to distribute the 5,000 trees across the town, and I urge all residents to claim their trees before supplies run out.”
To apply for the 'Your Tree Our Future' program, residents can visit the Hertfordshire County Council website or contact their local council representatives for more information. Applications at hertfordshire.gov.uk/yourtree will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis until all 5,000 trees are allocated.
