Council launches Business Pledge for town at Regal's Clarendon Works

Watford business pledge 3

The council have announced the launch of the ‘Watford Business Pledge’, an initiative designed to foster social responsibility and sustainable practices within the local business community...

The launch event, held at Regal’s The Clarendon Works during the recent ‘Business Connect’ event, saw three businesses – Regal, Berkeley Group, and We Are Acuity – sign up as early adopters of the pledge.

The Watford Business Pledge aims to create a collaborative environment where businesses can learn from one another about key areas of social responsibility, including local employment, local supply chains, good business practices, environmental sustainability, and community support.

This initiative, which is accessible and beneficial to companies of all sizes, underscores the council’s commitment to promoting a thriving, responsible business community. The three businesses that have signed up, also show the diverse mix of large and small enterprises in the town:

  • Regal: A leading property developer known for its commitment to quality and community-focused developments.
  • Berkeley Group: A prominent homebuilder with a strong reputation for sustainable and high-quality housing projects.
  • We Are Acuity: A local design company that embodies the spirit of creativity and innovation within Watford’s vibrant business ecosystem.

The ‘Business Connect’ event, part of the council’s ongoing efforts to support the growth and success of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the borough, provided a platform for the launch. The event also featured a presentation on the Watford Property Market by Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), a panel discussion, and a Q&A session, offering valuable insights and networking opportunities for local businesses.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said: “I'm really pleased that Regal, alongside Berkeley Group and 'We Are Acuity' have signed the Watford Business Pledge. This pledge is to support good business practices, and help other local businesses and residents, with job opportunities, environmentally friendly spaces and much more.

“I would also like to thank Regal for hosting the event at The Clarendon Works. With its state-of-the-art office spaces and amenities, as well as its excellent environmental rating, it is another important investment in Watford to ensure the ongoing economic success of town.

“Our regular engagement with local businesses is crucial. Watford ranked top place in the UK Vitality Index this year, highlighting why Watford is such a great place to invest and run a business in. It’s really important we continue to ensure SMEs have a voice in Watford's decisions. Through our Business Connect and other events we are providing support, information and opportunities to our local business community.”

Businesses interested in joining the Watford Business Pledge can access a range of resources designed to help them qualify for an award. The council will guide businesses through the application process and facilitating connections with other local enterprises.
