Watford Borough Council is excited to announce the return of the Big Beach...
From 16 August to 30 August 2024, families and individuals of all ages can revel in the joy of a beach experience without the need to travel to the coast. By bringing the beach to next to Watford Central Library, it provides residents and visitors an opportunity to bask in the summer sun, build sandcastles, and enjoy a range of exciting beach activities.
Big Beach is completely free to attend, offering a fantastic chance for everyone to indulge in the quintessential beach experience. Throughout the two-week event, visitors to Big Beach will have access to a wide array of beach toys, including buckets and spades, available at the beach hut.
There will also be free activities organised each day by Bowerbirdy Watford, who run the ever-popular Wat’s On programme during the easter and summer holidays.
The beach hut will also serve as an information centre, providing any details or assistance required. Open from 10am to 4pm daily, the beach hut is there to enhance your Big Beach experience. For those looking for refreshments, visitors are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks or take advantage of the wonderful nearby restaurants surrounding the area.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “I am excited to welcome the Big Beach back to Watford. Every year, The Big Beach brings the seaside atmosphere right to the heart of Watford and provides a fun and free way to spend the day with the family. I would encourage everyone to head down, relax in one of the deckchairs, take part in beach games or build sandcastles.”

The Big Beach is part of the council’s Big Events Programme, a series of sensational summer events for residents and non-residents alike.
