A message from Elected Mayor Peter Taylor on how we can create a support environment that prioritises safety and wellbeing...

Update on civil disturbances in UK

Without any recent reports of disorder around the country, we are increasingly hopeful that the appalling scenes we saw last week are behind us. The intelligence picture remains unchanged and we want to reassure you that the situation is being closely monitored at both local and national levels.

Ready to respond

While Watford has been fortunate to avoid any disorder, we recognise that feelings of anxiety and fear still affect many individuals. We are dedicated to ensuring that our community remains a place of peace and unity and by working together, we can create a supportive environment that prioritises safety and wellbeing.

Although there is currently no evidence of any planned ‘gatherings’ locally, Hertfordshire Constabulary remains on alert and is ready to respond robustly to any incidents that may occur, in collaboration with the council and partners. The Fire and Ambulance Services in Hertfordshire are also fully resourced and ready to respond if needed.

We know that rumours continue to circulate online, we want to reassure communities about the ongoing efforts happening behind the scenes and we strongly encourage everyone to rely on official information sources for updates. We also ask that residents do not share information about alleged gatherings, as this may only increase fear and tension within our communities.

Share your thoughts and experiences

Hertfordshire residents who have experienced any form of harassment or assault, whether physical or verbal, related to race or ethnicity can fill out a dedicated reporting form. We understand the profound impact recent events may have on those living and working in Watford and the surrounding areas, particularly those from communities directly affected by the disorder. Watford has come together during this turbulence to stand in solidarity with our faith and community leaders, and our partners, against racism and violence. By completing this form: https://forms.office.com/e/XRcY9UrZ8c, you contribute to the ongoing efforts to address these issues and support those impacted.

If you come across any disinformation or criminal activity, please report it to the police by visiting: https://orlo.uk/t6Omb or calling 101 or 999 if there is an immediate threat
