The council has secured £16 million in Government funding for its ambitious plans for the Town Hall and Watford Colosseum...

This follows a review of UK Levelling Up Fund projects chosen by the previous government.

This vital funding will drive forward the plans to breathe new life into the heart of the town centre, attracting increased footfall and strengthening Watford’s reputation as a hub of enterprise and innovation. It also supports the government’s commitment to driving economic growth and revitalising town centres.

The transformation of Watford’s iconic Town Hall complex will create a welcoming, flexible space for businesses to launch or grow. This new hub for innovation will be the first of its kind in southwest Hertfordshire.

It will also offer a new home for Watford Museum, which was awarded £2,454,347 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, to support the creation of an exciting and interactive new heritage service in the Grade II listed Watford Town Hall.

Meanwhile, the restoration of Watford Colosseum to its Art Deco splendour will deliver a first-class entertainment and performance venue, which will be managed by the globally renowned AEG Presents when it reopens.

These landmark projects are expected to increase visitors to Watford, generate new jobs, and provide a strong foundation for the town’s continued success.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “I’m delighted that the government has recognised the outstanding potential of our plans for Watford. This funding will help us unlock economic growth, create new jobs, and deliver exciting new spaces for our community. It is a big vote of confidence in Watford’s future.”

Matt Turmaine, MP for Watford, said: “I’m proud to champion Watford and despite challenging economic circumstances, confirmation of this funding demonstrates the new government’s commitment to our town. The investment will help deliver a vibrant community and business hub that will support both existing and new enterprises. It’s a real and significant step forward in strengthening Watford’s economic future.”

Watford’s success is a testament to the hard work and collaboration of the council and local leaders, ensuring the town is well-positioned for continued growth.

The projects represent a crucial element of the council's ambitious 10-year Town Hall Quarter programme to stimulate substantial investment in the area. For more information, visit watfordtownhallquarter.com.
