In anticipation of the festive season, Watford is excited to announce the launch of this year’s ‘Shop and Eat Local’ campaign, showcasing the vibrant array of new businesses and thriving retail and leisure destinations available in the town.
Led by Watford Town Centre BID and Watford Borough Council, this ‘Shop Local’ initiative aims to support the area’s unique shops and hospitality outlets, helping them recover from the challenges faced over the past few years. The campaign encourages residents to choose local over online and out-of-town shopping.
A key focus of this year’s campaign is promoting the Watford Gift Card, which allows recipients to select from over 140 participating businesses in Watford Town Centre. This versatile gift not only offers recipients the freedom to choose but also bolsters local businesses, ensuring that every purchase contributes to jobs and livelihoods within the community.
Thanks to the generosity of shoppers, Watford's high street and shopping parades are flourishing, earning recognition through various national awards. The town has also been ranked by the UK Vitality Index as one of the best places to live and do business in 2024, highlighting its potential for future growth.
The campaign will keep residents informed about local offerings and events, including Winterfest on 23 November and the Christmas Sunday Market on 8 December. These events aim to encourage footfall in local high streets and foster a festive atmosphere. Additionally, Christmas decorations will adorn key areas, thanks to funding from the Watford BID, local businesses and the council.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “Local businesses are integral to our community’s identity and character. This festive season let’s show our support by choosing to shop in Watford. It’s vital to remember the impact our shopping choices have on our community. Supporting local businesses not only boosts our economy but also helps maintain the diverse range of shops and businesses that make Watford special.”
Watford Town Centre BID’s manager, Kara Mesiano, said: “Our local businesses are the backbone of Watford’s economy. Through the ‘Shop and Eat Local campaign, we not only want everyone to visit our town’s eateries and shops this Christmas but also want locals to consider the Watford Gift Card as a present to your nearest and dearest. It offers the recipient an abundance of choice whilst guaranteeing that Watford Town Centre businesses are supported from the Christmas period through to 2025.”
