The council is celebrating a significant milestone in its commitment to a greener, more sustainable town, with the number of public electric vehicle chargers almost doubling over the past year...

New data from the Department for Transport highlights that as of July, Watford boasts 392 public EV chargers, a remarkable increase from 209 in the previous year – an impressive 88% rise.

This achievement reinforces Watford’s position as one of the leading areas in the UK for public EV charging infrastructure, with 380 chargers per 100,000 residents. This far exceeds the national average, demonstrating the council’s dedication to supporting sustainable travel and reducing carbon emissions in line with its climate action goals.

Watford Borough Council is committed to building on this momentum, continuing to explore opportunities to enhance charging access and further encourage the transition to electric vehicles.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “Our goal has always been to create a greener and more sustainable future for Watford’s residents, and this achievement underscores our work to leading the way in electric vehicle use and infrastructure. It will also benefit us all by ensuring cleaner air in the town.”

Councillor Ian Stotesbury, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Sustainability, said: “The continued growth of Watford’s EV charging network reflects the town's commitment to sustainability and clean transportation. As the number of plug-in vehicles in Watford rises, the expanded network of charging points ensures that residents have convenient access to the infrastructure needed to support their electric vehicles.”
