As part of Watford Borough Council’s commitment to enhancing the look and feel of local business areas, the well-used Whippendell Road Parade has undergone an extensive upgrade...
The improvements are part of the council's ongoing programme to revitalise community business hubs and to support local enterprises. There are similar projects planned over the next several years to ensure that all parts of Watford benefit positively from improvements.
The works on Whippendell Road were targeted between Southsea Avenue and Burton Avenue and between Durban Road and Park Avenue, with the upgrades delivering multiple enhancements, including new high-quality paving, and refreshed business frontages to boost visual appeal.
Pedestrian safety and accessibility have also been improved through updated crossings, protective bollards, and reconstructed speed humps and drainage, while maintained bike stands support easy access to public and active transportation options.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “I’m thrilled to see the completion of these improvements on Whippendell Road. The parade upgrades across the town are a key part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing Watford and ensuring it continues to be a vibrant, accessible town where local businesses can thrive, and residents and visitors feel welcome.
“Enhancing our public spaces ensures that every area benefits, supporting a stronger, more connected community for all.”
Councillor Ian Stotesbury, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Sustainability, added: “These completed upgrades are another milestone in our vision to ensure we continue to have a sustainable, vibrant environment for businesses and residents.
“Through close collaboration with local businesses and residents, we have enhanced the parade’s functionality and attractiveness, and we are confident this will foster a more connected and accessible local area for everyone to enjoy.”
