Lanchester School benefits from playground enhancement thanks to council grant

Friends of Lanchester Primary School, a dedicated group supporting community initiatives at the place of education, have used a generous £10,000 grant from the council's Neighbourhood Grant...

This funding has been used to provide a safer and more accessible outdoor space for children and the wider community to enjoy. To achieve this, a new durable surface has been installed, as the previous grassy area around the playground equipment posed safety concerns and limited use, especially during the wet and cold months.

The enhanced adventure playground will not only benefit students, including with after-school clubs, but also serve as a valuable resource for the wider community, as the school's public events are open to all. By providing a safe and accessible outdoor space, the project aligns with the council's vision of creating vibrant and inclusive community spaces for residents of all ages to enjoy.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “We are thrilled to support Friends of Lanchester Primary School in their efforts to create a safer and more inclusive outdoor space for children and the wider community. This grant demonstrates our commitment to investing in projects that improve the quality of life for residents in our neighbourhoods.”

Matthew Morey, Headteacher at Lanchester Primary School, said: “We are immensely grateful to the council for their generous support. This funding has allowed us to create a more inclusive and safe outdoor space that benefits not only the children attending Lanchester Primary School but also the broader community. We are excited about the positive impact this project will have on promoting physical activity and outdoor play for years to come."

The next round of funding for the Neighbourhood Grant will be in 2025. To find out more, including this year’s projects, please visit www.watford.gov.uk/community. The programme funded by the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) from developers of new housing, operates annually to mitigate the effects of development and enhance the local community's sustainable growth.
