Parks staff from Watford Council and Veolia were on hand to assist as hardy Watford residents braved the weather over the weekend (7 Dec) to claim thousands of free trees delivered as part of the Your
Trees planted by Watford residents across the borough will support Hertfordshire's goal of planting 1.8 million new trees by 2030 and contribute to Watford's ambition of becoming a net zero town within the same timeframe. These trees have the potential to remove an estimated 125,000 tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere over their lifetime.
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “A huge thank you to all Watford residents who collected their trees as part of the 5,000 free trees available on the 7 December, through the Your Tree, Our Future 2024 programme in collaboration with Hertfordshire County Council. I am delighted that we were able to offer even more trees to our residents. I was impressed that the wind and rain didn’t put people off!”
“It’s great that residents are actively getting involved with making Watford a greener place to live. When I was elected, I set out in my manifesto to plant 20,000 trees by 2026 in our town. Watford has already exceeded this target 2 years ahead of time.
