The council and Enterprise are excited to announce another significant achievement in the town’s initiative for greener transport, with the Watford Car Club officially welcoming its 100th member...

Since its inception in March 2024, the car club has seen its fleet of fully electric vehicles actively used for more than 3,790 hours, covering a remarkable 160,000 miles. By choosing these electric vehicles over traditional petrol or diesel options, members have collectively saved an estimated 2,624kg kilograms of CO₂ emissions, underscoring the club’s positive impact on the environment.*

In addition to this achievement, the car club has also expanded with a total of eight dedicated bays across Watford. This includes Queens Road, Woodford Road, Granville Road, Sutton Road, Ascot Road, Watford Cross, The Avenue Car Park and Parkside. The increase enhances accessibility, making it even easier for residents to choose electric vehicles for their transportation needs.

The Watford Car Club allows individuals and organisations to hire vehicles by the hour or day, offering a flexible alternative to car ownership. This initiative aligns with the council's broader ‘Transforming Travel in Watford 2021-2041’ strategy, aimed at improving air quality and easing congestion throughout the town. There are plans for further expansion as membership grows. Future initiatives also aim to include low-emission vehicles within local housing developments.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “The growth of the car club and the introduction of new bays reflect our dedication to enhancing air quality and tackling congestion in our community. This initiative provides residents with a convenient and sustainable transport option that contributes to a cleaner environment for all.”

Dan Gursel, Managing Director of Enterprise Car Club, said: “We are delighted with the progress made so far. The significant usage of our electric vehicles demonstrates a strong demand for sustainable transport solutions. The notable reduction in carbon emissions showcases the club’s beneficial impact within the community.”

New members can enjoy special introductory offers, including a two-year membership for just £20 per year (normally £60 thereafter) and £20 in free driving credit. Members will also benefit from not having to worry about maintenance, insurance, or parking permits. To join the Watford Car Club, visit enterprisecarclub.co.uk/WATFORD20.
