Watford residents can once again take advantage of the chance to join the 'Solar Together' group solar panel purchase scheme.

The scheme aims to encourage people in the town to switch to cleaner energy and reduce their carbon footprint.
Since the scheme launched in 2021, over 579 solar panels have been installed, which are predicted to save them a combined total of £59,000 each year on their energy bills. Over 25 years, this could lead to a 1,150-ton carbon reduction.
Coordinated in partnership with ‘Solar Together’ and Watford Borough Council, the scheme enables residents to purchase high-quality solar panels and batteries at a reduced cost through bulk buying, making the switch to solar more affordable and accessible.
Watford Borough Council is committed to supporting residents in making sustainable choices, as part of its wider ambition to become a net zero carbon town by 2030 or earlier. By rejoining the ‘Solar Together’ scheme, the council is reinforcing its work to tackle climate change and promoting greener living in the community.
Councillor Ian Stotesbury, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Sustainability, at Watford Borough Council, said: “We are delighted to bring back the ‘Solar Together’ scheme. The response from residents has been incredible, and it’s fantastic to see the community embracing renewable energy. This initiative not only helps people save on energy bills but also plays a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and protecting our planet.”
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: “Solar Together allows residents to reduce their carbon footprint and reduce their energy bills by acting together to bulk buy solar panels for their homes. We are delighted to offer this opportunity again after the popularity of the scheme last year. This is an excellent example of how the council can bring the community together to take action against climate change. I hope that lots of people once again take up the offer this year.”
