The Watford Community Lottery, established in 2023 by Watford Borough Council, has now raised £50,000 for good causes across the town.
The lottery provides a sustainable stream of funding for local charities, community groups, and projects that make a real difference to the lives of residents.
The funds raised have helped sports clubs improve facilities, disability charities expand inclusive programmes, and homelessness charities address urgent needs. The £50,000 total includes over £13,000 raised for the Watford Community Fund which supports all the charities in the town through a separate grant scheme.
This has all been made possible thanks to the incredible support of the community, who have got behind the lottery through their ticket purchases.

A recent winner and supporter of West Watford Community Centre said: “I play the Watford Community lottery as it's a great way to support local charities and causes, with the chance of winning a prize as well. I was really happy to win £25 recently and look forward to treating myself with my win.”
Pavlina Kingsleigh, Centre Manager of West Watford Community Centre, said: “West Watford Community Centre offers not only low cost or free activities and events but also volunteering opportunities that can enhance people’s lives in many ways. As a small local charity, diversifying our income is vital to our survival. We are grateful to all our supporters who chose us as their cause, no matter how small or large the contribution. All contributions make it possible for us to keep providing our services, put new ones on, run the office and the building."
Deputy Mayor of Watford, Cllr Aga Dychton, Portfolio Holder for Community said: “We’re excited to announce that we’ve raised an incredible £50,000 for local causes through the Watford Community Lottery! It’s fantastic to see residents getting involved, supporting worthy causes, and having fun simultaneously, especially with the chance to win prizes.
As we envision what’s ahead, we truly believe that Watford can gain so much from this wonderful initiative. Our commitment to working alongside local organisations remains strong, and we’re excited about the chance to support projects that celebrate and uplift our community's unique character. We invite you to stay connected and come together to create a positive impact for all!”
Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor: “I’m thrilled by the success of the Watford Community Lottery and the incredible support it provides to so many of our local charities and groups. This would not have been possible without the incredible support of our residents who participate in the weekly draws.
When I stood for re-election in 2022, I pledged to establish a community lottery to support local good causes, and I am so happy to see how successful this initiative has been for our community. We're so proud to have 64 good causes signed up so far and are eager to support even more causes. I highly encourage local groups to get involved and sign up.”
