A digital inclusion programme, ‘Staying Connected’, is transforming lives across Watford by helping residents build digital skills, gain confidence, and stay connected in an increasingly online world.
The programme is delivered in partnership between Watford Borough Council and Watford & Three Rivers Trust (W3RT), as part of the wider countywide Staying Connected initiative, working with local partners to ensure that no one is left behind in the digital age.
The Staying Connected programme continues to grow, offering a vital lifeline to many across the borough. With a strong network of local partners and dedicated volunteers, it’s playing a crucial role in creating a digitally inclusive community in Watford.
The programme has already helped 47 people confidently access the digital world, breaking down barriers of isolation and loneliness. Thanks to a strong network of local partners and dedicated volunteers, 49 pieces of equipment have been provided to those who would not have been able to afford it, opening new ways to connect, learn and feel included.
Other key highlights of the programme include:
- Support for refugees: Working with the W3RT Refugee Partnership, the team has provided digital equipment and tailored 1:1 session to help refugees connect with essential services and opportunities online.
- Help for those in need: In collaboration with Watford Food Bank, individuals facing hardship are referred into the programme for personalised digital support.
- Community partnerships: Through a partnership with Good Vibrations, participants are offered both equipment and dedicated 1:1 training to help build confidence in using digital tools.
- Ongoing social club support: A dedicated Digital Inclusion volunteer regularly visits six local social clubs three times a year, offering in-person advice and hands-on guidance to older residents and those less confident with technology.
- Volunteer development: The programme has also worked closely with Museum of Watford delivering individual training to one of their volunteers to support their digital development.
Danielle Negrello, Customer Experience Lead, said: “Digital inclusion is about equality of opportunity. Whether it’s accessing healthcare, applying for jobs or simply staying in touch with family, digital skills are essential. Through the 'Staying Connected' programme, we’re reaching those who need support the most and making a real difference in their lives."
