Disability and Council Tax
If you or a person who lives with you has a disability, you could get support with your Council Tax.
Eligibility
If your property meets the following requirements, you could be entitled to a Council Tax reduction:
- there is a room, other than a bathroom or kitchen, mainly used to meet the needs of a disabled person
- there is a second bathroom or kitchen, which is required to meet the needs of a disabled person
or
- a disabled person needs to use a wheelchair inside the property
The person with the disability does not have to be the Council Tax payer.
If you're eligible, your Council Tax could be reduced to the band below the one you currently pay.
Council Tax may also be reduced for people with a permanent and substantial disability.
How to apply for disabled person reduction
If you feel you're eligible for a discount, you should contact us as soon as possible.
