Empty properties and Council Tax
Information about Council Tax premiums on properties left empty in Watford.
Empty home Council Tax premiums by year
To help bring empty houses back into use as homes for the people of Watford, a premium is added to Council Tax costs.
- from 1 April 2019, if a property has been empty for 2 years or more, the additional premium will be 100% of the standard Council Tax
- from 1 April 2020 a property that's been empty over 5 years, the additional premium will be 200% of the standard Council Tax
- from 1 April 2021 onwards, properties that have been empty for more than 10 years will be charged an additional 300% of standard Council Tax
