Active Travel
Our focus is on providing the necessary improvements that make the streets of Watford attractive and safe places for people of all ages to walk and cycle. We have already been making improvements on Clarendon Road and St. Albans Road along with new consultations on cycling schemes, which are underway.
Improving cycling and walking facilities
Provide direct routes across town
- Installing new cycle lanes on roads people are most likely to cycle on.
- Improving footways and pedestrian crossings on busy streets
Make it easier to own a bike
- Increasing the amount of secure cycling parking near homes and key locations in the town.
Make cycling possible, even for those who don't own a bike
- Maintaining existing bike-share scheme
- Expand the scheme to serve more places and new cycle routes
Proposed improvement locations
Enhancing Watford's streets
Make streets quieter, cleaner and more attractive for walking, cycling and local residents
- Exploring schemes to create healthier streets through slowing down vehicles and reducing traffic, particularly outside schools.
Enhance our streets to make them more attractive to spend more time in, reflecting the needs of all and contributing to our biodiversity
- By adding new seating areas, plants, cycle parking or other community facilities in the available spaces
