What is scrutiny?
Scrutiny is a non-executive function. This means that the Executive (the Mayor and Cabinet) cannot be members of a scrutiny committee or task group.
Scrutiny has four key roles:
- holding the executive to account, including monitoring the council's performance
- policy review
- policy development
- external scrutiny, which includes crime and disorder and other statutory partners
Each year a report is produced and presented to the council. It explains the work scrutiny has undertaken during the previous year.
