Choose which licence to apply for
We can issue two types of licences:
- Dual Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licence
- Private Hire Driver Licence only
Hackney Carriage Licence
- Often known as public hire taxis or black cabs
- Can pick up passengers without a prior booking
- Often operate from taxi ranks
- Can be flagged down in the street
- Often display a prominent taxi sign
- Have a meter
Private Hire Licence
- Must be pre-booked through a licensed private hire operator
- Cannot operate from taxi ranks
- Cannot be flagged down on the street
- Fares agreed upon and confirmed at the time of booking
- Vehicles have more flexibility in terms of vehicle type and appearance
